FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling Aftercare
How long after microneedling can I wash my face?
Wait at least 6-8 hours before washing. Use lukewarm water and a gentle non-foaming cleanser. Pat dry with a clean towel. Do not rub.
Can I wear makeup after microneedling?
No. Wait at least 24 hours for light needling (0.25-0.5mm) and 48-72 hours for deeper treatments. Mineral makeup is less irritating when you do resume.
How long does the redness last?
24-72 hours depending on treatment depth. Superficial treatments cause redness for 12-24 hours. Deep treatments (1.5-2.0mm) can cause redness for 3-5 days.
Can I exercise after microneedling?
Avoid exercise for 24-48 hours. Sweat contains bacteria that can enter the micro-channels and cause breakouts. Increased blood flow also prolongs redness.
How often should I do microneedling?
Every 4-6 weeks for collagen induction. This matches the skin’s wound healing cycle. Doing it more frequently does not produce faster results and increases the risk of scarring.
Can I use vitamin C after microneedling?
Not within the first 48 hours. Vitamin C has a low pH (around 3.5) that causes stinging on compromised skin. Wait until day three and use a stabilized derivative like magnesium ascorbyl phosphate.
How long until I see results?
Most patients notice improvement in skin texture and tone after 2-3 sessions. Collagen remodeling continues for 3-6 months after a full treatment course.
What SPF should I use after microneedling?
SPF 50 or higher, mineral-based (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide). Apply every two hours if outdoors. UV exposure on post-microneedling skin increases the risk of hyperpigmentation.
