Products Safe for Post-Microneedling Use
Applying the wrong product on skin that has just been microneedled can cause irritation, breakouts, or delayed healing. The products listed here meet three criteria: they are free of irritants, they support barrier repair, and they have been tested on compromised skin.
Cleansers
Look for non-foaming, sulfate-free cleansers with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5. Cream or milk cleansers are preferred over gels during the first 48 hours. Avoid water-resistant makeup that requires double cleansing.
Barrier Repair Moisturizers
Ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids in a 3:1:1 ratio mimic the skin’s natural lipid barrier. Products containing niacinamide at 2-4 percent provide additional barrier support without irritation.
Sunscreens
Mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are the only sunscreens recommended for the first week. Chemical sunscreens penetrate compromised skin and can cause stinging. SPF 50 or higher is required because the new skin layer is vulnerable to UV damage.
Growth Factor Serums
Human fibroblast-conditioned media and copper peptides support the collagen production cycle initiated by microneedling. Apply these in the evening starting 48 hours after treatment.
Hyaluronic Acid
Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid penetrates the micro-channels created by needling and provides deep hydration. Apply to damp skin immediately after cleansing.
